The symbolism
Lilies are often associated with purity, renewal, and the beauty of nature. Their elegant form and vibrant colors make them a favorite subject in art, symbolizing both the fragility and resilience of life. They are also linked to royalty and celebration, often used in ceremonies and special occasions, on coats of arms, and in religious iconography.
To me, the lily represents a resistance, a suffering, progress and hope in better future. It was a symbol of my nation, country, kingdom and people that endured through centuries of hardship, wars, and oppression. The lily stands tall and proud, much like the spirit of those who fought for freedom and dignity.
Inspiration
Royal lily is a symbol of strong people, my people. People that will not give up, even in the darkest of times.
This people are harmless, peaceful and kind, but when pushed to the edge, they will fight back with all their might. They will not back down, they will not surrender, they will not be broken.
Idea
Since very young age, I've been flooded with the symbolism of the lily flower. It was used in 1992. as a symbol of the independence movement in my country, and later as a national symbol of majority of the population. It was also used in the coat of arms of the medieval Bosnian kingdom, and it is still used as a symbol of the bosniaks today.
Technique
This artwork is created using aquarelle (watercolor) on unbranded Bristol board. The choice of aquarelle allows for a delicate and translucent quality, capturing the softness and elegance of the lily flower. The paper's texture enhances the depth and vibrancy of the colors, bringing the flower to life on the page.
Personal Stance
As all of my works, this one is also personal, from roots of my soul. It represents my connection to my heritage, my identity, and my hope for a better future. Through this painting, I aim to convey not just the beauty of the lily, but also the strength and resilience it symbolizes.
