The personality
The Royal Goose is a magnificent being—an impure-pure bloodline, both wolf and goose. Yet, in the snowy streets of Tampere, it chooses to walk as a goose.
This artwork is a tribute to a dear friend who has been with me since the very beginning of my artistic journey. She often pushed me to reach further, to create more, to express deeper—even in moments when I didn’t feel capable. Her support was unwavering, and her friendship invaluable.
Inspiration
One winter’s day, while walking through the snow-covered streets of Tampere and speaking with me on the phone, I imagined her moving through the snow with a goose-like waddle. The image struck me with such humor and charm that I knew it had to be captured in art.
Idea
My friend takes great pride in her Greek roots—so much so that I often teased her for having “blue blood.” With that playful thought in mind, and the vision of her goose-like stride in the snow, I could not resist transforming her into a Royal Goose.
Technique
The piece was painted in aquarelle (watercolor) on Fabriano sketch paper. At the time, I had no canvas at hand, but the idea felt urgent, demanding to be expressed. It was also my first return to aquarelle since childhood—a medium I had once avoided, yet in this moment it felt like the only one that could bring the Royal Goose to life.
Personal Stance
This artwork is personal. It symbolizes my friendship with someone who has been a steady source of encouragement and light throughout the years. It also reminds me that art does not always need to be solemn—that it can be playful, joyous, and fearless. Sometimes, the most meaningful creations are born when we simply let go and allow ourselves to create.
